Fraud Alert: Impersonation Scam

Members should be aware of a new fraud scam taking place whereby you may receive a telephone call from someone claiming to be a representative of NLCU.

In these calls, the scammer may claim there is an issue with transactions, suspicious activity, or a problem that requires immediate action. They may ask for personal information such as account numbers, online banking credentials, multi-factor verification codes, or other sensitive details.

NLCU will never ask for your online banking login credentials or multi-factor authentication codes. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from NLCU and you are unsure of their identity, please hang up and call 1 (800) 563-3300.

As a reminder, you should always verify through official NLCU channels any unexpected or suspicious contact claiming to originate from your credit union.

Protect Your Personal Information

Telephone calls from scammers pretending to be from reputable companies to trick you into revealing personal information are a form of impersonation scamming. Here are a few important tips to remember to protect against these scams:

  • Be suspicious of unsolicited phone calls
  • Never assume that phone numbers appearing on your call display are accurate
  • Hang up and make the outgoing call when someone claims to be contacting you from your credit union, service provider, law enforcement or government agency
  • Verify information through official channels
  • Be cautious about providing personal information
